Through the subsidy, the extensive use of grassland and arable land is promoted. On permanent grassland, for example, measures for the protection of ground nesting birds and extensive grassland management are eligible for funding. In arable farming, an example is the creation of flower strips. Farmers undertake to maintain these measures over a certain period of time and are therefore restricted in their free use of the land. On the other hand, this can increase societal acceptance of agriculture and farmers can receive between €60 and €150 in subsidies per hectare, depending on the area and the measure.
In connection with the funding procedure "Promotion of species and biotope protection in agro-ecosystems", it is possible for the farmer to carry out special nature conservation services on grassland (permanent grassland, grassland extensification, ground-nesting bird protection); in addition to the funding, these bring him about 60 - 150 euros per hectare.
